About IIT-JEE

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are the most prestigious institutes which offer bachelor level courses in engineering and technological education of state-of-the-art standards. At present, there are 23 IITs in India offering a variety of courses ranging from B.Tech to doctoral programs.

Considered to be India's one of the most competitive and highly challenging entrance exams, cracking IIT-JEE requires a strong logical and problem-solving capacity.

The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is conducted in two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

JEE Main: JEE Main the very first stage and only candidates clearing the Mains are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. It is an online screening test with paper 1 being conducted to admit candidates to the undergraduate engineering programmes in institutions recognised by the State Government all the while also serving as an eligibility test for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced: JEE Advanced is the second and final stage of the entrance exam. Candidates who clear JEE Main and score high ranks in the merit list can appear for JEE Advanced. It is an online screening test conducted by seven different zonal IITs on a rotational basis. The exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2, carried out in two stages, held on the same day. A candidate must appear for both papers to clear IIT-JEE Advanced.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria

  • No age limit
  • The candidate should have passed the 12th class or an equivalent exam from a government-recognised board and university. The candidate needs to get passing marks in 10+2 to appear for the exam. A candidate appearing in 12th class or equivalent qualifying exams in 2022 can also apply.
  • The candidate can appear for 3 consecutive years with the entrance test being conducted four times a year.
  • For BE and BTech, the candidate should have passed the qualifying exam in Maths, Physics and any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject).

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate should be born on or after October 1, 1997 with a relaxation of 5 years for the reserved category.
  • The candidate should have passed the 12th class or an equivalent exam from a government-recognised board and university. The candidate needs to get passing marks in 10+2 to appear for the exam. A candidate appearing in 12th class or equivalent qualifying exams in 2022 can also apply.
  • The candidate should have cleared the JEE Main exam and should hold a rank within the top 2,50,000 candidates (including SC/ST). A candidate also needs to meet the individual cut-off set by each IIT.
  • Each candidate has a total of 2 attempts in consecutive years.
  • Any candidate who joined an IIT and subsequently cancelled his candidature is ineligible to get admission.

A candidate first needs to register online by providing basic details such as name, email, mobile contact detail, DOB, etc.

A candidate needs to ensure the safety of his username and password till the entire examination and admission process is complete.

Filling out the Application Form

  • Exam related details - such as Paper I or Paper II or both, mode of examination, language medium, etc.
  • Personal Details - such as father’s name, mother’s name, etc.
  • Academic Details - such as passing year of 10th class, name of school, etc.
  • Mailing address details - such as district, state, pin, etc.
  • Guardian Details - such as qualification, occupation, etc.
  • Choosing Password - a security question along with it’s answer and a password which should be within 8 to 13 characters in length.
  • Security Pin - entering a given security pin or generating a new one.
  • Verifying mobile no. and email ID.
  • Uploading the candidate’s image of required dimensions.

    • Fee Payment for B.Tech Examination

    • A candidate belonging to General/ OBC/ EWS category, for a boy it is INR 1300 and for a girl, it is INR 650.
    • A candidate belonging to SC/ ST/ PWD/ Transgender category, for all it is INR 650.
  • Availability of application form - Dec 2021
  • Last date for online submission of the application form - Dec 2021
  • Application correction window opens from - Jan 2022
  • Admit Card release date - Jan 2022
  • Exam date (Session 1) - Feb 2022
  • Exam date (Session 2) - March 2022
  • Exam date (Session 3) - April 2022
  • Exam date (Session 4) - May 2022
  • The JEE Main syllabus will consist of three main subjects - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All the topics and concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from Classes 11th and 12th are part of the JEE syllabus.
  • The syllabus for Physics is divided into two sections: Theory and Experimental Skills. The ratio of the weightage of Section A to Section B is 80:20.
  • Chemistry consists of three sections: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
  • Mathematics includes problems of Algebra, Matrices, Trigonometry, Probability, Analytical Geometry, Calculus, and Vectors.

For JEE Main

  • The paper will consist of 90 questions
  • Section A will have 60 questions and Section B, 30 questions.
  • Candidates need to answer 75 questions - 20 questions in section A and 5 questions in section B for each subject - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Section A comprises multiple-choice questions.
  • Section B comprises numerical value answer type questions
  • For each correct answer, +4 marks will be awarded, and for each incorrect answer, -1 will be deducted. There is no negative marking for Section B.

For JEE Advanced

  • JEE Advanced will have 2 papers, each consisting of 3 parts: Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Paper 1 will consist of three sections with 6 MCQs, 8 numerical value answer type questions and 4 paragraph based questions.
  • Paper 2 will consist of three sections with 6 multiple choice questions, 8 numerical value answer type questions and 4 matching type questions.
